Event: US Voter Registration Booth and Public Information Action for Global Unity Resisting War and Aggression

22.10.2003
PRAHA [International Peace Movement in Czech republic]
Autor: International Peace Movement, tel: 602478468, 608819276

Time and place: Saturday, Oct. 25 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Mustek, bottom of Wensceslas Square

Organizations: International Peace Movement of the Czech Republic, Czech Peace Committee, American Voices Abroad Prague and the Iraqi Club of the Czech Republic

Press contacts: Arianna Meadowlark at 608819276 and Thomas Brzak at 602478468

The International Peace Movement of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with other Prague organizations, will hold a gathering on Mustek at 2:00 pm on Oct. 25 to inform the public and to celebrate the broad international unity in opposition to policies of illegal war, aggression and occupation in Iraq and elsewhere. Participants from many countries will paint a large globe as a symbol of unity for peace.

The organizers' primary premise is that international security must be maintained by international law, rather than through the use of aggressive violence. We also recognize the achievements of the international opposition to the war in Iraq in preventing the use of planned carpet-bombing tactics and sending a clear message to all regimes which may consider employing the doctrine of "pre-emptive war" that it is illegal and unacceptable to the international community.

This event is a response to an international call to action issued by United for Peace and Justice and ANSWER in the United States of America. These organizations are planning their largest demonstrations since the end of the war in Iraq on Oct. 25 and several events in other European countries are also expected.

In Prague, an international team of researchers will present information for the public about the deceit and disinformation campaign that led to war in Iraq earlier this year, current events in the region and proposed solutions under international law. Further activities will include painting, music making and a costume contest. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in the traditional costumes of distant cultures, and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

As a concrete support of democracy and peace, there will also be a voter registration booth for United States citizens resident in the Czech Republic provided by American Voices Abroad Prague, an American organization aimed at securing free and fair elections in the USA.

Admission is free and open to all. In keeping with the independence of the organizations involved, the promotion of specific political parties is not welcome at our events.

For further information please call our press contacts listed above or see www.osud.cz/peacemovement for information about the Prague event or www.unitedforpeace.org for information on the international call to action.
