The purpose of this campaign is to communicate the truth and lessons about Chernobyl, find clean energy solutions for the east European region and strengthen an international network, linking Eastern and Western environmental groups. Additionally, the campaign aims to halt the construction of additional and unfinished reactors in Eastern Europe and the efforts of the Western nuclear lobby to expand in the region.
Part of this campaign will be a major international conference on April 20 to 22 in Kiev. We will be preparing materials which are useful for both analysts and activists working on energy issues throughout the region and around the world. The campaign will have local, national and coordinated international actions to raise public consciousness and point out the available alternatives to nuclear power, everywhere. Cultural events will be mixed with these political issues to both remember the victims and spark hope and take steps for a nuclear-free future.
We are gathering information about the Chernobyl (and other) accident and are especially interested in cooperation with groups who have already developed this material and want it distributed more widely.
