Candlelight Vigil on Sundays only

15.4.2003 - PRAHA (International Peace Movement ) - The International Peace Movement of the CR has organized a daily memorial act for war victims in Iraq. Candles have been lighted around the Jan Hus statue on the Old Town Square in Prague starting the 20th of March 2003, the first day of the war, and every evening thereafter at 7 PM.

The war in Iraq can be considered "over" in terms of the military situation; nevertheless, with regard to the continuing loss of life for the Iraqi people, the International Peace Movement has decided that it will continue to conduct this memorial act once a week from now on, always on Sunday at 7:30 PM, and we will continue until an overall solution to the Iraqi crisis has been achieved.

The candles symbolize the light of hope for the building of a free, united and democratic Iraq, occupied by no foreign armies or governments from abroad.

IPMCR thanks all those who have lit candles for the victims of the Iraq war. We look forward to your continued expressions of solidarity with the Iraqi people.
