The area of the Czech Republic pertains to two geomorphologic units - the Hercynian and the Alps-Himalayan system. The western and central parts of the CR form the Hercynian system province - The Czech Highlands. Surface of the Czech Highlands is mostly hilly without typical lowlands. Mountain ranges are usually gently sloped and often interfered with valley rivers. The province of the Alps-Himalayan system - the Western Carpathian - breaches into eastern part of the CR. Dividing line between these two mountain systems is occupied by the range of the Moravian vales.
