Dear friends,

As you know, on April 26 we commemorate ten years after the Chernobyl accident. It involved not only several countries in the East, but the majority of the European countries and the situation is still dangerous for millions of people who inhabit highly contaminated areas, drink water and eatfoods which contain high level of radioactivity. The consequences of this situation will be observed during many years.

Chernobyl still remain a bomb which menaces the whole Planet because of its very dangerous state. A lot of Rbmk reaktors (the same as the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant) are scattered in many countries of ex-Soviet Union , a big quantity of nuclear plants are going to be built.

legambiente, as well as many other international organizations have been working for a number of years to provide children from the Chernobyl area with rests in Italy, which are beneficial for their health. This children are innocent victims of this dangerous situation which exists in Belorussia and Ukraine. The high level of radioactive contamination lead to pathologies bound to the Chernobyl catastrophe.

If you didn't decide to participate yet, please do it NOW. Legambiente proposes to organize Manifestation in the greatest cities all over the whole Planet in the days before and after 26 April.

On behalf of the affected population we proclaim NO MORE CHERNOBYLS and WE WANT:

- to close immediately and definitely the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and all the Rbmk reaktors in Eastern countries proposing alternative energy solution;
- to stop making use of nuclear energy in civil and military purposes;
- to ban all nuclear tests, introduce new international order which may strongly guarantee peace in the world; build relations between peoples and states in the name of cooperation and solidarity;
- to introduce alternative energies, in favour of renewable resources, reducing use of oil and dangerous substances;
- to stop ecologically harmful productionand industries which may threat health and safety of their workers and the surrounding area;
- to let people realize the importance of the alliance between environment and labour activities;
- to build up equilibrium between Man and Nature.

On April 26 the delegation of Legambiente will go to Kiev to participate together with people from contaminated areas in the manifestation to close the Nuclear Power Plantand to ask for sanitary help for the inhabitants from highly radioactive contaminated areas.

We ask you to join in this initiative which will take place in Kiev tomorrow, on April 26,and actively demonstrate with ecological organizations from all over the world against civil and military nuclear and claim for sanitary help for Ukrainian, Bielorussian and Russian people struck by the nuclear accident.

If you are not able to come in Kiev, you can organize an anti-nuke demonstration in your town or notify us your agreement and endorsement at the International letter we will bring to Ukrainian Government to ask for the CLOSING DOWN OF CHERNOBYL POWER STATION.
